I was so lucky to have twins, because my mom made two of our favorites: German chocolate cake for my sister and carrot cake for me

How to make German chocolate cake?


3 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk

4 beaten egg whites

1 cup boiling water

5 ounces German Chocolate

2 cups sugar

1 cup softened butter

4 egg yolks

1 teaspoon vanilla

Coconut pecan glaze

3 egg yolks

2 cups peeled coconut

1 cup pecans, divided

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter

1 cup condensed milk (12 oz.)

1 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1: Preheat oven to temperature 350 F.

Step 2: Melt chocolate with boiling water; In a large bowl, mix butter and sugar until pale. Add egg yolks, one at a time. Add chocolate and vanilla. Stir the flour, baking soda and salt into the buttermilk, beating after each addition until the dough is smooth.Combine egg whites.

Step 3: Divide the dough into the mold until cooked.

Coconut-Pecan Glaze:

Combine sugar, milk, butter, vanilla and egg yolks in a saucepan. Cook over high heat until thickened, 13 minutes.
